What's The Rule?

Privacy

This site is free to read, and it keeps as little as it can. We collect anonymous usage metrics only, never personal data. There are no accounts, and we do not ask for your name, email or address.

What is recorded

Each browser gets a random identifier, kept in that browser's local storage. It is not linked to a name or an account. You can clear it at any time.

Where you are

We do not record where you are. We do not look up your country, state, city or exact location, and we do not keep your IP address.

Who receives it

Usage events go to PostHog, the analytics service the site uses, which processes them for us. The request your browser sends to PostHog reaches PostHog's servers, which discard the IP address and do not look up a location. We do not sell this data or share it with advertisers.

How long it is kept

Search queries and their results are kept for 13 months. Problem reports are kept until the problem is fixed.

What it is for

To find out which rules people look for and where search misses them, so we can improve the search and the rule text. We do not use it to identify anyone.

Do Not Track

If your browser sends Do Not Track, the site sends no usage events at all.

Your choices

Blocking analytics requests in your browser stops the usage events. Search works the same either way.
